FURMAN PALADIN TENNIS TOPS CHARLOTTE, 6-1

GREENVILLE, S.C.-- The Furman men's tennis team (8-10 overall, 2-1 SoCon) won its final non-conference match of the year when the Paladins defeated the Charlotte 49ers 6-1 at Mickel Tennis Center on Wednesday.

Furman began by sweeping the 49ers in doubles action to take the doubles point. At No. 1, the 46th-ranked doubles duo of James Cameron and Patrick Fillnow handed Marlo Santoso and David Bolin an 8-6 loss. In flight two action, Andrew Rogers and Ben Pauluhn topped Jonathan Vencatachellum and Christofer Boman, 8-4, while Chris Henderson and Allen Simmons outdueled Stuart Lynas and Arturo Aguirre at No. 3, 8-5.

The Paladins then won five of six singles matches to clinch the victory. At No. 1, Cameron, who is ranked 114th in the country, defeated Aguirre in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1. After Rogers overpowered Charlotte's Jonathan Clark at the No. 3 slot, 6-1, 6-1, Fillnow beat Boman at No. 4, 6-4, 6-1. Furman's Ryan McCarthy, who was leading Zvi Lantsberg 6-3, 6-5, won his No. 6 singles match when his opponent was forced to retire due to injury. The Paladins' final victory came at No. 2 singles, where Henderson edged Santoso in a three-set battle, 6-3, 3-6, 7-5.

Furman will look to win its third straight dual match when the Paladins travel to Boone, N.C. to face the Mountaineers of Appalachian State at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
