FURMAN MEN'S TENNIS PLAYER JAMES CAMERON NAMED TO VERIZON ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT TEAM

GREENVILLE, S.C.-- Furman University announced today that Paladin senior tennis standout James Cameron has been named to the Verizon Academic All-District III At-Large Team for 2003. The prestigious award encompasses not only athletic achievement, but success in the classroom as well.

Cameron, the 2003 Southern Conference men's tennis Player-of-the-Year, garnered a 16-10 overall mark and 9-0 conference record at No. 1 singles during the 2003 campaign. In addition to being named to the all-conference first teams for singles and doubles, Cameron was ranked as highly as No. 113 in singles and No. 19 in doubles with partner Patrick Fillnow in 2003. During his four years at Furman, the 2002 doubles All-American amassed a 63-43 overall singles mark and 74-33 doubles record.

Cameron, a health and exercise science major, will graduate on May 31. He currently carries a 3.952 grade point average.
