FURMAN MEN'S TENNIS RALLIES PAST APPALACHIAN STATE, 5-2

BOONE, N.C.-- The Furman men's tennis team moved to 9-10 overall and 3-1 in Southern Conference action when the Paladins downed the Appalachian State Mountaineers 5-2 in Boone, N.C. on Saturday.

Appalachian State seized the momentum at the match's beginning when the Mountaineers took the doubles point. Furman's lone win in doubles action came at No. 3, where Chris Henderson and Allen Simmons defeated Jacob Stapleton and Alon Cohen, 8-6.

Furman rebounded by taking five of six singles matches to clinch the victory. At No. 1, James Cameron earned a 6-2, 6-4 victory against Erez Cohen. Andrew Rogers then defeated Andrew Taylor at No. 3 by a 7-6, 6-3 score. Furman's Patrick Fillnow won his No. 4 singles match against Alon Cohen, 6-3, 6-3, while Simmons beat Ben Shuster in three sets at No. 5, 6-2, 4-6, 7-6. Paladin Ryan McCarthy then won his No. 6 singles match against Stapleton, 7-5, 6-1.

Furman will next face arch rival East Tennessee State in Johnson City, Tenn. on Tuesday at 2:30 p.m.
