66TH RANKED FURMAN DOWNS DAVIDSON, 7-0; PALADINS CLINCH SOUTHERN CONFERENCE REGULAR SEASON CHAMPIONSHIP

GREENVILLE, S.C.-- The 66th ranked Furman Paladin tennis team moved to 13-12 overall and 10-0 in conference play with a 7-0 defeat of the Davidson Wildcats at Mickel Tennis Center on Sunday. With the win, Furman claims an outright Southern Conference regular season championship and will be seeded first in next weekend's conference tournament.

Furman started the day by sweeping Davidson in doubles action. At No. 1, Paladins John Chesworth and James Cameron notched an 8-2 victory against Rob Haywood and Donald Miles, while Peter Netzler and Andrew Rogers beat Chad Winebarger and Rob Gould at the No. 2 slot, 8-6. Furman's Chris Henderson and Allen Simmons completed the shutout with a 9-8 (5) victory against Jonathan Britt and Geoff Mullen at No. 3.

Furman's Chesworth, Cameron, Henderson, Patrick Gaughan, Patrick Fillnow, and Ryan McCarthy then emerged with straight set victories in singles action to clinch the match for the Paladins.

Furman will next compete in the Southern Conference Tournament on April 19-21 in Charleston, S.C.
