GREENVILLE, S.C.-- The 62nd ranked Furman men's tennis team (8-11, 5-0 SoCon) won its seventh straight match when the Paladins defeated Wofford 7-0 at Mickel Tennis Center on Wednesday.
Furman swept the Terriers in doubles action to take the doubles point. At No. 1, Paladins John Chesworth and Patrick Fillnow edged Brandon Smith and Lee Porter, 9-7, while Peter Netzler and Andrew Rogers earned an 8-3 win at No. 2 against Wofford's Edward Moseley and Dial Burwell. Furman's Chris Henderson and Allen Simmons won their match at the No. 3 slot 8-3 against Jason Mengel and Brett Johnson.
Furman then carried the momentum into singles play as the Paladins took all six matches to clinch the victory. At No. 1, Chesworth, the 44th ranked player in the country, defeated Smith, 6-1, 6-3, while Henderson beat Johnson at No. 2, 7-6 (4), 6-1. Fillnow won his match at No. 4 against Burwell, 6-4, 6-4, and Paladin Ryan McCarthy defeated Mengel at No. 5, 6-2, 6-3. Rogers also recorded a straight set triumph with a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 6 against Alec Wilson.
The lone three-set match on the day came at No. 3 singles, where Patrick Gaughan defeated Porter, 5-7, 7-5, 6-2.
Furman will next travel to Chattanooga to face the Mocs on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
