CHARLESTON, S.C.-- The 71st ranked Furman Paladin tennis team (14-12, 10-0 SoCon) advanced to the semifinals of the Southern Conference Tournament this afternoon with a 4-0 victory against the Appalachian State Mountaineers.
Furman began play by taking the doubles point. At No. 1, John Chesworth and James Cameron, the 40th ranked doubles duo in the country, defeated Erez Cohen and Doug Ormsby, 8-4. Allen Simmons and Chris Henderson then defeated Derrick Boone and Jacob Stapleton at the No. 3 slot 8-6 to clinch the match's opening point.
Chesworth, Cameron, and Patrick Fillnow won their singles matches in straight sets to seal the victory.
The Paladins will face Chattanooga at The Citadel's Earle Tennis Center on
Saturday at 8:30 a.m., with the winner advancing to the Southern Conference
Championship. Furman defeated the Mocs earlier this season, 5-2.
