FURMAN'S CHESWORTH, CAMERON ENJOY SUCCESSFUL WEEKEND AT 2001 ITA REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

CHAPEL HILL, N.C.-- Furman's John Chesworth and James Cameron enjoyed a successful weekend at the 2001 ITA Region II Championships as the two Paladins teamed up to make the doubles semifinals in Chapel Hill, N.C.

Chesworth and Cameron, seeded second in the tournament, opened up their play with an 8-6 first round victory over South Carolina's Angelo Niculescu and Marcus Westman. They then followed that win up with a second round 8-5 victory over The Citadel's Matt Stubbs and John Williams. Chesworth and Cameron then defeated William and Mary's Sean Kelleher and Geoff Russell 8-5 before dropping an 8-5 decision to Virginia Commonwealth's Florian Marquardt and Pedro Nieto in the semifinals.

Chesworth also had an impressive run in the singles draw. In the round of 64, Chesworth defeated VMI's Slobodan Stipic, 6-2, 6-1. He overpowered Old Dominion's Zoltan Csanadi 6-3, 6-2 in the second round and then defeated James Madison's Andrew Lux, 6-3, 6-1. Chesworth then lost a tough three-set match to the No. 1 seeded Marquardt of Virginia Commonwealth in the quarterfinals, 2-6, 6-2, 6-4.

Cameron won his first round match in singles against William and Mary's Russell, 2-6, 6-0, 7-6(6), but then lost to Florida State's Xaiver Luscan, 7-6, 6-1.
