THIRD-RANKED GEORGIA TOPS FURMAN IN MEN'S TENNIS ACTION, 6-1

ATHENS, Ga. -- No. 67 Furman slipped to 1-6 on the season as the Paladins dropped a 6-1 decision to the third-ranked and defending national champion Georgia Bulldogs on Sunday afternoon at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens. The Bulldogs, who are now 6-1 on the year, took the doubles point and five of six singles matches for the win.

"This was a well-fought match," said Georgia head coach Manuel Diaz. "Furman was tough, gritty and came out with a lot of enthusiasm. Although they lost the doubles point, they fought hard at all the singles spots."

After Georgia's Stephan Timu and Lesley Joseph topped Peter Netzler and Andrew Rogers at No. 2 doubles, 8-3, Matias Boeker and Brandon Wagner clinched the doubles point by defeating Furman's No. 15 ranked tandem of John Chesworth and James Cameron, 8-6. Furman did record a victory in doubles action as Georgia's Will Glenn and Ion Vlad lost to Patrick Fillnow and Allen Simmons at No. 3, 7-5.

After winning the doubles point, Georgia took five of six singles matches to register the victory.

Furman posted its only point on the day with Chesworth's decisive 6-4, 6-2 victory at No. 1 singles against Georgia's No. 6 ranked Wagner.

Furman will look to put an end to its six-match losing streak when the Paladins face 24th-ranked Alabama in Tuscaloosa tomorrow at 2:00 p.m.
