PALADIN TENNIS DOWNS GEORGIA SOUTHERN, 7-0

STATESBORO, Ga.-- The Furman men's tennis team shut out Georgia Southern 7-0 at the Hanner Courts in Statesboro on Sunday. With the win, Furman improves to 6-11 overall and remains undefeated in league play with a 3-0 record.

Furman won all three matches in doubles to start the day. At No. 1, James Cameron and John Chesworth, the No. 22 doubles tandem in the country, defeated Wojciech Nowak and Darren Clark, 9-7. Peter Netzler and Andrew Rogers then beat Noah Tyler and Danie Van Den Heever at No. 2, 8-1, while Furman's Chris Henderson and Allen Simmons earned an 8-3 triumph against Uli Ebsensperger and Mark Finnegan at No. 3.

After taking the doubles point, Furman swept the Eagles in singles action to clinch the match. At No. 1, Chesworth, the No. 48 player in the nation, defeated Nowak, 6-2, 7-5, while Cameron beat Clark at the No. 2 spot, 2-6, 6-2, 6-4. After Patrick Gaughan earned a straight set victory against Ebensperger at No. 4, 7-6 (5), 6-3, Henderson won his match at No. 3 against Finnegan, 7-6 (5), 4-6, 6-3. Furman's Patrick Fillnow then defeated Tyler at No. 5, 7-5, 6-4, while Ryan McCarthy held off Van Den Heever at the No. 6 position, 6-2, 7-6 (5).

The Paladins will return to the courts on March 28th when they head to Boone, N.C. for a showdown against conference foe Appalachian State.
