NO. 35 FLORIDA DOWNS 64TH RANKED FURMAN MEN'S TENNIS, 6-1

GAINESVILLE, Fla.-- In an attempt to upset the 35th ranked Florida men's tennis team in Gainesville, Fla. on Saturday, No. 64 Furman came up short as the Gators held off the Paladins, 6-1. The loss drops the Paladins to 1-3 on the season.

Florida opened up the day with an 8-5 Olivier Levant-Eleazar Magallan victory over Furman's Patrick Fillnow and Andrew Rogers at No. 2 doubles. The Gators then clinched the doubles point when Chris McDonald and Hamid Mirzadeh defeated the fourteenth ranked doubles tandem of John Chesworth and James Cameron, 8-6.

Florida then jumped to a 2-0 lead when Levant defeated Chris Henderson at No. 4 singles, 7-5, 6-2. After Florida's Troy Hahn defeated James Cameron at No. 2 singles, 7-5, 6-3, the Gators clinched the match when Trey Johnson defeated Furman's Ryan McCarthy in one of the four three-set matches of the day, 3-6. 6-3, 6-4.

Furman's Patrick Gaughan dropped a tough three-set match to Ross Greenstein at No. 5 singles, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4, followed by a 7-6, 6-7, 7-6 Magallan victory over Furman's Patrick Fillnow at the No. 3 slot.

The Paladins' lone bright spot on the day came at No. 1 singles, where John Chesworth defeated Hamid Mirzadeh 4-6, 7-5, 7-6.

Furman returns to action on Sunday when the Paladins visit Florida State at 2:00 p.m.
