FURMAN'S JOHN CHESWORTH NAMED SOUTHERN CONFERENCE MEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK

ASHEVILLE, NC -- The Southern Conference today announced that Furman's John Chesworth was named the SoCon Men's Tennis Player of the Week for his performances through March 26. It is the second selection for Chesworth this season.

Chesworth, a junior from Burnley, England, went 3-0 at No. 1 singles last week for the Paladins, helping Furman to an unbeaten week including victories over Charlotte, No. 37 Vanderbilt, and Georgia Southern in conference action. Chesworth has won six straight at No. 1, including a win over No. 30 Bobby Reynolds of Vanderbilt (6-4, 2-6, 6-4). He also defeated Wojciech Nowak of Georgia Southern (6-2, 7-5) and Ola Jonsson of Charlotte (7-5, 6-4).

On the season Chesworth is 11-6 overall and 3-0 in the SoCon. He is ranked 48th in the nation. Furman's win over No. 37 Vanderbilt marks its biggest upset of a ranked team since defeating No. 26 North Carolina on February 13, 2001.

The Paladins are currently 6-11, but are on a five-match winning streak.
