NO. 68 FURMAN WINS FOURTH STRAIGHT MEN'S TENNIS MATCH IN 5-2 WIN OVER NO. 52 UNC CHARLOTTE

GREENVILLE, S.C.- The No. 68 Furman men's tennis team won its fourth straight match as the Paladins upset No. 52 UNC Charlotte 5-2 at Mickel Tennis Center. With the win, the Paladins (10-6, 4-0 Southern Conference) avenged a 4-3 loss suffered last year against the 49ers.

The Paladins opened the day by taking two of three doubles matches to earn the doubles point. Furman's James Cameron and John Chesworth were 8-3 winners against Charlotte's Jacob Nordwall and Joakin Peterson. The Paladins clinched the point when Charlie Lloyd and Chris Henderson closed out 49ers Jonathan McGovern and David Bolin on their fifth match point opportunity to win, 9-7. Furman's lone doubles setback came at No. 2, where Charlotte's Thomas Oggesen and Ola Jonsson defeated freshmen Andrew Rogers and Patrick Fillnow, 8-6.

Furman then went on to win four of six singles matches to seal the victory against the 49ers. Chesworth, Henderson, and Patrick Gaughan were straight-set victors, and Cameron edged Charlotte's Peterson, 6-3, 3-6, 10-8.

Furman will try to build upon its success as the Paladins face Southern Conference foe College of Charleston at home on Friday. The match is slated to begin at 2:30 p.m.
