FURMAN MEN'S TENNIS SHUTS OUT CHARLESTON, 4-0

CHARLESTON, S.C.- The Furman men's tennis team advanced to the semifinals of the Southern Conference tournament with a 4-0 victory against the College of Charleston Cougars. The win gives Furman coach Paul Scarpa his 698th career victory, moving him into fourth place all-time in men's tennis victories past former Texas coach Dave Snyder.

The Paladins started the day by taking the doubles point from the Cougars. The all-conference duo of John Chesworth and James Cameron emerged victorious with an 8-2 defeat over Henrico du Plessis and Sagi Zakin. Charlie Lloyd and Chris Henderson clinched the point with an 8-2 victory against Cougars Matt Beckham and Mike Sutcliffe.

Furman sealed the win with straight set singles victories from Chesworth, Henderson, Eric Ward, and Patrick Gaughan.

Furman advances to face Chattanooga in the semifinals, a team the Paladins defeated 5-2 during the regular season. The match will begin at 1:00 p.m. at The Citadel.
