NO. 74 FURMAN TOPS DAVIDSON IN MEN'S TENNIS ACTION, 6-1

DAVIDSON, N.C. - Nationally-ranked Furman won its fourth straight Southern Conference match of the season by defeating the Davidson Wildcats in men's tennis, 6-1.

The Paladins (9-6, 4-0 Southern Conference) opened the match by taking the doubles point for an early 1-0 lead. All three doubles went to Furman including an 8-2 win by James Cameron and John Chesworth at No. 1 doubles.

Furman clinched the contest with straight set victories at No. 1, 2, 5, and 6 singles. Senior Chad Phillips earned Davidson's (4-6, 0-2) only point of the day by battling back from a 1-6, 0-3 deficit for a three-set win. At No. 3, junior Chad Winebarger and Furman's Chesworth battled back and forth with Chesworth prevailing in the third set, 7-5.

The Paladins move on to face UNC Charlotte Wednesday, March 21 at Mickel Tennis Center on the campus of Furman University.
