GREENVILLE, S.C.- The No. 62 Furman men's tennis team improved to 14-8 on the season and 7-0 in the Southern Conference as the Paladins defeated Chattanooga (10-7, 6-3 Southern Conference), 5-2.

In singles action, Paladins James Cameron, John Chesworth, and Eric Ward garnered straight-set victories against the Mocs. Cameron was a 6-4, 6-3 winner against Jess Koti at No. 2 singles, while Chesworth earned a 6-3, 6-0 victory at No. 3 against John Hangstefer. Ward won his match against James Dickerson at No. 6, 6-0, 6-4.

Furman's setbacks occurred at No. 1 and No. 4 singles. After taking the opening set, Jason Ontog rebounded from a second-set lapse to defeat Furman's Lee Nickell at No. 1, 7-5, 3-6, 6-2. Chattanooga's Fungai Munjanja and Paladin Patrick Gaughan split the opening two sets of their match at No. 4, but Munjanja prevailed in a decisive 10-point tiebreak to win 5-7, 6-3, 11-9.

Furman swept the doubles matches to earn the doubles point. Cameron and Chesworth beat Ontog and Koti at No. 1, 8-5, while Patrick Fillnow and Andrew Rogers won an 8-6 decision against Munjanja and Brandon Abney at No. 2. Chris Henderson and Charlie Lloyd defeated Dickerson and Hangstefer at No. 3, 8-3.

The Paladins will attempt to take sole possession of first place in the conference as they visit UNC Greensboro this Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
