Greenville, S.C.- The Furman Paladin men's tennis team defeated the Appalachian State Mountaineers 6-1 on Saturday at the Mickel Tennis Center to move to 8-6 on the year and 3-0 in the Southern Conference.
The Paladins opened the dual match by taking every doubles match. At No. 1, Furman's John Chesworth and James Cameron were 8-6 victors over Mountaineers Dan Holman and Craig Rice. Freshmen Andrew Rogers and Patrick Fillnow were also victorious, defeating Appalachian State's Doug Ormsby and Rick Hauchman, 8-4. The Paladins completed the sweep with Chris Henderson and Charlie Lloyd overpowering Appalachian State's Robbie Ormsby and Ben Shuster, 8-1.
In singles play, Furman's Fillnow, Henderson, Lee Nickell, Patrick Gaughan, and Eric Ward were all straight-set winners.
The one bright spot in the Mountaineers' day came at No. 2 singles, where Appalachian Statešs Rice defeated Chesworth in three sets, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.
Furman will travel to Davidson tomorrow to face the Wildcats at 1:30 p.m.
