No. 68 Furman Overpowers NC State in Men's Tennis Action, 6-1

RALEIGH, N.C. - The NC State men dropped its Sunday afternoon match with the 68th-ranked Furman Paladins 6-1 at the Wolfpack Tennis Center. The win moves the Paladins to 12-6 on the season.

Furman dominated the early singles action by taking the first set in every match. However, NC State mounted a furious rally in the second set of each match, winning the set on four courts. The drive was largely sparked by Michael Carducci's comeback at No. 3 against Furman's John Chesworth. Carducci, down 5-0 in the second stanza, mounted a tremendous charge to take the set 7-4 in the tiebreaker before finally succumbing to Chesworth 6-2 in the third set to seal the match.

Senior All-ACC honoree Eric Jackson battled Lee Nickell in a three-set war at No. 1, winning 6-7, 6-4, 6-2 for the Wolfpack's singles point.

The Wolfpack was forced to play without the services of Matt Lucas at No. 2 singles. Lucas retired three games into his match with James Cameron due to a back injury. Earlier in the afternoon, Lucas teammed with Ryan Boward for NC State's lone doubles win at No. 3, 9-7.

Furman moves on to play a home match against Alabama this Tuesday at 2:30 p.m.
