Furman Men's Tennis Downs Davidson 4-1 In SoCon Semifinals

Chattanooga, Tenn.-- The Furman men's tennis team defeated Davidson 4-1 Saturday afternoon in the semifinals of the Southern Conference Tournament in Chattanooga, Tenn.

The Paladins advance to face fifth seeded Chattanooga, who surprised top seeded ETSU 4-3 on Saturday in the championship match.

The Paladins opened the match by claiming the doubles point. Seth Hauser and Jon Navarro rallied from a 7-4 deficit to edge Davidson's No. 3 doubles team of Harrington/Webb 9-7 to clinch the point.

Furman went on to win three singles matches to send the Paladins to the conference title match. Lee Nickell clinched the victory with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 win over Brett Ialacci at No. 1 singles. Patrick Gaughan and James Moeckel were also victorious for the Paladins with straight set wins.

Furman improves to 22-12 and are seeking their 11th conference tournament title and first-ever NCAA Tournament bid.
