Greenville, S.C. -- Furman men's tennis standout Sam Schroerlucke was selected as one of 64 players to compete in the NCAA Championships in Athens, Ga., from May 27 to May 31.
Schroerlucke, a senior from Atlanta, Ga., becomes only the third Paladin ever to appear in the NCAA tournament. Don Barton advanced to the round of 16 in 1981 and Ned Caswell made appearances in 1986 and 1987, advancing to the quarterfinals in 1987.
Schroerlucke recently completed the regular season with a 20-5 singles record and a national ITA ranking of 57th. He was named Southern Conference Player-of-the-Year and was recently awarded Furman's Student-Athlete achievement award.
In Schroerlucke's four-year career, he has won the Southern Conference tournament MVP award twice, been named All-Southern Conference three times in both singles and doubles, and won the No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles championships three times.
The draw for the 1998 NCAA Championships will be conducted May 26 in Athens, Ga.
