Furman Softball Earns Split on Final Day of Ringor Invitational

ROCK HILL, S.C. -- Rachel Henley tossed a complete game allowing only one run and Megan Jaudon blasted a two-run home run to lead Furman to a 3-1 win over Western Illinois on the final day of the Ringor Invitational at Winthrop. UCF defeated Furman 7-3 to claim the silver brackett championship in the day's final game.

With one out in the top of the first, JoDee Eichelberger drew a base on balls and Jaudon followed with a towering shot to left to give Furman a 2-0 lead.

Henley(4-9), who struck out eight Western Illinois batters in seven innings, held the Westerwinds to just a sixth inning solo home run on her way to earning the win.

Karen Marie Pena suffered the loss for Wetsern Illinois despite striking out 11 and allowing just four hits.

In game two, Stephanie Best went 2-for-2 with a solo homer to lead UCF to its third win in as many tries versus Furman.

Amber Lamb and CiCi Alvarez both went 2-for-3 with two runs scored as UCF pounded out ten hits against Furman pitching.

Lindsay Enders allowed just two earned runs on one hit to pick up the win for UCF, her eleventh of the year.

Henley suffered the loss for Furman after giving up six runs on nine hits in five innings of work. Jessica Matthews paced Furman at the plate going 1-for-2 with a double and two runs scored.

Furman, 5-22 on the season and winners of three this weekend, return to action Thursday when it visits Gardner-Webb for a non-conference twinbill.
