Henley, White Lead Lady Paladins Past Georgia Southern 1-0

Greenville, S.C. -- Junior Rachel Henley tossed a complete game, three-hit shutout while Kristin White doubled and scored the game's only run to lead Furman to a 1-0 victory over Georgia Southern in softball action Sunday afternoon at Pepsi Stadium. The Lady Paladins won the three-game series 2-1.

White, who drove in the winning run in game one of Saturday's doubleheader, led off the sixth inning with a double into the left centerfield gap. After LaKerah Barr advanced White to third with a sacrifice bunt, the senior scored on a fielder's choice off the bat of JoDee Eichelberger.

Henley, after defeating the Eagles 2-1 on Saturday, struck out five without allowing a walk to improve to 7-13 on the season. Dating back to the conference opener last weekend at UNC Greensboro, the righthander has not surrendered an earned run in 32.1 innings in the circle.

Cary Moone (8-7) was the tough luck loser for Georgia Southern. Moone baffled Furman batters, striking out 14 Lady Paladins in six innings of work.

The win, Furman's fourth in five games, improves the Lady Paladins to 9-30 overall and 4-2 in Southern Conference play. Georgia Southern drops to 18-18 overall and 2-4 in league play.

Furman returns to action Wednesday when it hosts Winthrop in a non-conference doubleheader at 3 p.m. before traveling to the College of Charleston for a key SoCon series next weekend.
