Lady Paladin Softball Earns Split with Georgia State

Greenville, S.C. -- LaKerah Barr went 3-for-4 with a two-run triple to lead Furman to a 4-3 game one victory and doubleheader split with Georgia State in softball action Wednesday afternoon at Pepsi Stadium. Georgia State took game two 10-2.

In game one, Georgia State jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the fifth inning when Kiley Miller singled home a run and Mary Kathryn Branan was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

Furman rallied to tie the game in the bottom half of the inning. Rachel Henley led off the frame and Lyndy Wilcox followed with a walk. After Kristin White sacrificed the runners to second and third, Barr laced a two-run triple to right center to even the score at 2-2.

Georgia State and Furman exchanged runs in the eighth inning, but the Lady Paladins held the Panthers scoreless in the top half of the ninth. Kristy Goodrich started the inning on second for Furman using the international tie breaking rule. White led off the inning by reaching on a bunt single and Andrea McNary's throw to first was high allowing Goodrich to score the game winner.

Rachel Henley (11-19) picked up the victory for Furman working six innings. Henley surrendered just one earned run on five hits.

White and Joni Lockridge joined Barr in leading the Furman offense with each collecting two hits.

McNary suffered the loss for the Panthers giving up two unearned runs in three innings of relief. Jamie Cagle and Lauren Morlock each picked up two hits for Georgia State (16-33).

In game two, Georgia State exploded for ten runs on nine hits against two Lady Paladin pitchers to take a 10-2 victory.

The Panthers opened up a 4-0 advantage with one run in the second and three more in the third. Georgia State exploded for six runs on four hits and one Furman error to put the game out of reach in the sixth.

Alexandrea Pratt, who picked up the win in 4.2 innings of work, combined with Andrea McNary to hold Furman without an earned run over seven innings.

Cagle paced the Panther offense going 2-for-4 with a homer, two runs scored and two RBI.

Goodrich (3-12) suffered the loss for Furman giving up six runs on five hits in 3.2 innings of work. Barr went 2-for-3 with an RBI to lead the Lady Paladins.

Furman (14-42, 6-9 SoCon) returns to action Saturday when it hosts Chattanooga in a Southern Conference doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
