East Tennessee State Tops Furman in Regular Season Finale 4-0

Johnson City, Tenn. -- Pitcher Tiffany McVay tossed a complete-game shutout and Lindsay Lane went 3-for-3 at the plate to give East Tennessee State a 4-0 victory over Furman Sunday afternoon at Metro-Kiwanis Park.

The Lady Bucs got all the runs they would need in the bottom of the third inning. With two outs, Janine Sprague singled up the middle and McVay drew a base on balls. Centerfielder Danielle Spetar followed with and RBI single plating Sprague to give East Tennesse State a 1-0 lead. Lane upped the lead to 2-0 with an RBI double just inside the right field line scoring McVay.

ETSU tacked on two more runs in the fifth. After a Mary Beth Hazelwood walk and an RBI triple by Sprague, Spetar delivered a sacrifice fly to center to increase the lead to 4-0.

McVay, who improved to 14-10 on the season, allowed just two hits while striking out two in the shutout. Rachel Henley (12-22) was saddled with the loss after giving up four runs on seven hits in five inings in the circle.
