CHARLESTON, S.C. -- The Furman Lady Paladin softball team dropped its final two games of the Charleston Southern Invitational Sunday falling to Akron 3-1 and UNC Greensboro 6-2.

Akron scored all the runs it would need in the first inning of the morning's first game. The Zips plated two runs against starter Kristy Goodrich who was relieved after only 0.1 innings of work.

Furman cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the first when Karen Myers ripped a two-out single to left plating LaKerah Barr.

Akron pitcher Megan MacKenzie shut down the Lady Paladins the rest of the way to pick up the victory.

Kelly Quigley led the Zips at the plate going 1-for-4 with a double and a run scored while Joni Lockridge went 2-for-3 for Furman.

In game two, UNCG second baseman Joni Gomez went 3-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI to lead the Spartans to a 6-2 win.

Furman took a first inning lead when LaKerah Barr scored on a throwing error by the Spartans, but UNCG scored single runs in the first, second and fourth innings to take a 3-1 lead.

UNCG put the game out of reach in the sixth. The Spartans scored three runs capped off by a two-run double from Jennifer Bonilla.

Vanessa Oakes grabbed the win for the Spartans whiles Erica Nesselroad (0-2) suffered the loss for Furman. Nesselroad allowed four earned runs over 5.1 innings of work.
