UNC WILMINGTON EDGES FURMAN SOFTBALL 2-1, LADY PALADINS WIN SERIES 2-1

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- UNC Wilmington's Amanda Wilson limited Furman to just one run on six hits in seven innings as the Seahawks salvaged game three of the three-game series Sunday at Pepsi Stadium 2-1. Furman, who led 5-1 in game two before it was suspended by darkness Saturday, shutdown UNC Wilmington in the sixth and seventh for the 5-1 victory.

The Seahawks jumped on Furman early in game three. Melissa Morris led off the game with a single to right center. After advancing to second on a ground out, Morris moved to third on a single by Tiffany Lindemann. With one out, Morris scored on a Meghan Mulcahy groundr to shortstop. Furman's Kelli Leachman threw wild to first allowing Mulcahy to reach and Lindemann to move to third. Christine Freaney capped the Seahawks' scoring with a sacrifice bunt scoring Lindemann.

Furman (18-17, 7-5 SoCon) picked up its only run of the afternoon when Joni Lockridge drove home Kate Morrion with a two-out single in the bottom of the second inning.

Wilson improved to 10-10 on the season after earning the win for UNCW (17-25, 3-5 SoCon), while Rachel Henley (8-8) suffered the loss for Furman. Henley pitched four innings allowing two runs on three Seahawk hits.

Lockridge paced the Lady Paladins at the plate going 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI.

In game two of the series, Furman broke open a 2-1 game in the bottom of the fifth with a two-run double to right field off the bat of Sarah Scott. Leachman followed with a double to right scoring Scott for the 5-1 margin.

Henley earned the victory working in relief of Tabitha Dease. Henley surrendered only one hit and struck out three in three innings of work.

Morrison was 2-for-3 for the Lady Paladins, while Scott was 1-for-2 with a run scored and two RBI.

Wilson took the loss for UNC Wilmington after giving up five runs and nine hits in six innings.
