NORTH CAROLINA SHUTS DOWN LADY PALADIN SOFTBALL 2-0, 3-0

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- North Carolina pitcher Alison Yin tossed a no-hitter, while first baseman Jaclyn Holden belted a two-run home run to lead the Tar Heels to a 3-0 victory and sweep of Furman in Wednesday's doubleheader in Chapel Hill, N.C.

Yin (5-3) allowed no walks while striking out two Lady Paladins in seven innings of work for the game two victory.

Meagen Johnson (3-5) took the loss for Furman. The Tar Heels tallied four hits and three runs in six innings versus the Furman righthander.

North Carolina's Crystal Cox struck out 12 Lady Paladins and surrendered only three hits to lead UNC to a 2-0 game one win.

After four and a half scoreless innings, the Tar Heels took the lead with a solo home run by second baseman Megan Welch in the bottom of the fifth. The run, North Carolina's first in 30 innings was the only earned run allowed by Lady Paladin starter Rachel Henley (3-5). The Kingston, Tenn., native gave up four hits in six innings of work while taking the loss.

Caroline Evans, Furman's centerfielder, went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double to pace the Lady Paladins offensively.

Furman, now 8-10 on the season, returns to action when it hosts Tennessee Tech in a doubleheader Saturday at Pepsi Stadium.
