COLLEGE OF CHARLESTON ELIMINATES LADY PALADINS 3-0

CHATTANOOGA, TENN. -- The College of Charleston capitalized on three Furman errors to defeat the Lady Paladins 3-0 and elimintae Furman from the Southern Conference Tournament at Hargraves Fiels in Chattanooga, Tenn., Friday afternoon.

Cougar Amanda Cone scored on a wild pitch after moving to third on a throwing error by the centerfielder to start the scoring for the College of Charleston in the first inning. The Cougars brought another run home in the second inning after the Furman catcher’s throw to third was errant.

With two outs in the fifth Shannon McCall singled, while Keyta Lawson and pinch-hitter Bridget Loudermilk walked to load the bases. Mallory Davis went in to run for McCall and scored off a failed pick off attempt as the throw went down the left field line.

Natalie Smith threw a four-hitter, going 5.1 innings, to take the win and go to 12-4 on the year. Rachael Stern came in relief in the sixth and held the Lady Paladins for her second save of the season. Rachel Henley took the loss, giving up seven hits and three unearned runs.

With the win, Charleston (44-10) advances to game 12 to face the winner of the UNC Greensboro/ Georgia Southern game at Frost Stadium at 4:45 PM. Furman finishes the season with a record of 21-32.
