FURMAN SOFTBALL SPLITS DOUBLE HEADER WITH NORTH CAROLINA

Greenville, S.C.-- The Furman softball team split a hard fought doubleheader on Thursday with ACC foe North Carolina at Pepsi Stadium as the Lady Paladins returned home for the first time in over a month. Furman began the doubleheader by giving up North Carolinaıs only run of the game in the first inning on a double by North Carolinaıs Quinn Porter. Furmanıs freshman pitcher Rachel Henley then took over the game, delivering a dominating performance, not allowing another hit until the top of the seventh inning. Furmanıs offense came to life in the bottom half of the second inning as Kate Morrison led off by doubling to right field. Following a flyout and a walk, junior Jessica Griffin singled to center driving in Morrison. Furman capped their offense from game one in the bottom of the fifth inning as Kristin White reached on a single and then scored on a LaKerah Barr double. Henleyıs pitching performance finished game one from there striking out four, while allowing one earned run in a seven inning complete game performance. North Carolina pitching took over in game two as Ashley Allen allowed only three hits in five innings while striking out two. The Carolina offense was led in game two by shortstop Emily Price who went three for three with an RBI. Furmanıs offense only managed three hits in game two and only had one runner reach third base. The game was called in the fifth inning due to the eight run rule. Furman returns to action this weekend as they travel to UNC Wilmington for a weekend series.
