Furman Drops Two To Georgia

Athens, Ga.-----Julie Milner led Georgia (29-25) at the plate on Wednesday, hitting 4-for-6 with six RBI in the Dogs' doubleheader sweep of Furman. The freshman from Snellville went 2-for-2 with four RBI in Georgia's 7-3 win in game one, and followed with a 2-for-3 effort and two more RBI in the 3-1 game two victory.

Furman (23-26) took the early lead in game one, behind a two-run blast from cleanup hitter Kelli Leachman. Leachman finished the day with six hits and three RBI. The Dogs battled back with one run in the bottom half of the first, as Milner knocked in Michelle Tyree on a sac fly. One more run in the third was all Bulldog starter Nichole Urban would allow before Georgia's bats heated up. Milner scored Nicole Barber and Melanie Robertson on a third-inning double, and Shannon McKeon doubled and scored on a Julie Raiskums single in the fourth. Georgia scored three runs on three singles in the fifth to complete the damage.

In game two, Bulldog pitcher Kaili Howard settled down after a rocky first inning to pitch a complete-game three-hitter. In the first, Howard walked the leadoff batter, who eventually scored on a bases-loaded walk. That unearned run was Furman's only score of the contest. The win moves Howard's record to 9-10, and in her last three starts she has worked 17.2 innings, allowing just one earned run. Milner drove home two of the Dogs' three runs in the win, but the shot of the day was Kirsten Vaughn's RBI infield single (that looks like a line drive in the box score) which scored Alyssa Mauro in the second.

Furman will wrap up the regular season this weekend, with a three game series against UNC Greensboro at home in Pepsi Stadium.
