JACK CELEBRATES BIRTHDAY WITH 3-1 WIN OVER GEORGIA SOUTHERN

CHATTANOOGA, Tennessee -- Furman pitcher Kelly Jack celebrated her 22nd birthday on Friday by pitching the Lady Paladins to a 3-1 victory over the Georgia Southern Eagles in the second round of the Southern Conference Championship at Jim Frost Stadium.

Jack's teammates staked her to a two-run lead in the bottom of the first when third baseman La Kerah Barr tripled in the leadoff position, then scored on a Kay Brittain single. Freshman catcher Karen Myers reached on a walk, advanced to second on Brittain's hit, and stole third before scoring on a Jack sacrifice fly to center field.

Jack held the Eagles hitless until the fifth, when Lacey Kamerer reached on an error, advanced on a Susanne Pansula sac, and scored on a Tabitha Robinson single to second base. Though Jack gave upe two more hits on the day, it was GSU's only score.

Furman's third and final run came in the bottom of the sixth inning when Brittain hit a 240-foot solo homer. The senior from Roanoke, Va., went two-for-three on the day with two RBI and one run scored.

With the win, Jack improved to 10-8 on the year while the Eagles' Aimee Littlejohn fell to 9-14 overall. Furman will face the top-seeded Mocs of Chattanooga Saturday at 2 p.m.
