FURMAN SOFTBALL STRETCHES WIN STREAK TO FIVE

WITH TWO VICTORIES OVER CHARLESTON SOUTHERN

GREENVILLE, South Carolina -- Furman's Lady Paladin softball improved to 12-15 on the year and stretched its win streak to five Thursday, with a pair of victories over Charleston Southern (2-1, 5-1).

In game one, pitcher Chrissy Hacker scored in the bottom of the sixth inning to break up a 1-1 tie, and give the Lady Paladins the decisive second run. Hacker had reached on a single to center field, advanced on a single by Kelly Van Houten and a sacrifice by right fielder Kristen White, then scored on a passed ball. Furman's first run was scored on a solo home run by freshman Karen Myers. In the seventh, Charleston Southern staged a rally when a Van Houten error allowed Kiki Verkoeyen to reach, but Hacker got a timely ground out to third base by CSU first baseman Samantha Miller to end the game.

In the second game senior Kelly Jack pitched five innings, giving up five hits and one run to earn the win and improve to 5-5 on the year. Sophomore Missy Baldwin came in in relief and held the Bucs scoreless in the 5-1 win. Furman scored first in the bottom of the first, then tallied four runs in the fourth, two on a Kay Brittain triple to right field to take the win.

With the wins, Furman improves to 12-15 on the year, while Charleston Southern falls to 13-17. The Lady Paladin will face Appalachian State this weekend in a Southern Conference series in Boone, N.C.
