GLASSER NAMED ASSISTANT SOFTBALL COACH

GREENVILLE, South Carolina -- Furman head softball coach Bonnie Flynn announced on Monday the hiring of former Lady Paladin Julie Glasser as assistant softball coach. Glasser's hiring follows a one-year stint at Coastal Carolina, where she helped the Lady Chanticleers to the NCAA Regionals and was a member of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association/Speedline Southeast Coaching Staff of the Year.

As an undergraduate at Furman (1994-97) Glasser was a three-time Southern Conference Player of the Year ('95,'96, '97), two-time All-South Region selection ('95,'96), GTE Academic All-American ('96,'97), two-time team Most Valuable Player ('96,'97), and was the 1997 Edna Hartness Female Athlete of the Year and recipient of Furman's Student Athlete Achievement Award. A catcher, Glasser continues to hold Furman records for plate appearances (792), at bats (695), runs scored (158), hits (266), and home runs (25), and is second in games played (228), RBI (136), doubles (58), and triples (19).

"We are thrilled to have someone of Julie's caliber on the coaching staff," said Flynn. "Her playing experience will be a great asset in instructing our team and I don't know of anyone who is a better fit for Furman. She knows Furman and what it has to offer, which will make her a powerful recruiter for this program."

Upon graduation, Glasser attended Wake Forest University, where she earned a master's degree in cardiac rehabilitation. She replaces four-year assistant Tanya Spishak, who left Furman in May to pursue a head coaching position. Glasser immediately assumes her duties at Furman.
