FURMAN DROPS SEASON OPENER TO GEORGIA TECH

Greenville, South Carolina--The Furman softball team dropped both games of its season opening doubleheader to Georgia Tech on Tuesday. Tech improved to 3-1 on the year with victories of 3-1 and 2-1, while Furman enters tomorrow's 2 p.m. doubleheader against Campbell with an 0-2 record.

Tech's Tiffany Goodman gave up no earned runs and just two hits in game one, while the Lady Paladins' Kelly Jack gave up a two run home run to Erin Hawley in the top of the sixth with the game tied at one. With the lead in hand, Goodman was able to get six consecutive outs to end the game.

In game two with the score tied 1-1, the Yellowjacket's Tasha Waugh hit an RBI double in the top of the sixth inning to give Tech a one run lead over Furman. The Lady Paladins could not rally in the bottom of the sixth, their last chance before the game was called on account of darkness.

Furman managed five hits on the day, all by sophomores Caroline Evans (1-3, 1-1) and Alison McNulty (1-3, 2-3).
