FURMAN SPLITS SOCON DOUBLEHEADER WITH UNC GREENSBORO

Greenville, South Carolina--The Furman softball team split a doubleheader with UNC Greensboro on Saturday at Pepsi Stadium. Furman dropped game one 5-1, and defeated the Spartans 2-1 in game two.

The Spartans had a two-run third inning, and spaced the rest of their three runs to defeat Furman in game one of the doubleheader by a score of 5-1. Greensboro's Kristy Norton went 3 for 4 from the plate, driving in three of the Spartan runs. Greensboro pitcher, Amber Watson threw a complete seven innings for the win, improving her record to 7-2, while Furman pitcher Chrissy Hacker took the loss in 6 1/3 innings on the mound.

In game two, Furman scored a run in the bottom of the sixth inning off a Kelli Leachman single to break the tie and take the win. Senior Kelly Jack threw a complete game, striking out seven and allowing three hits, one unearned run, and walking two, to improve her record to 9-8. Greensboro pitcher Maureen Flynn took the loss in six innings, moving her to 0-1.

Furman completes the three game series with UNC Greensboro on Sunday, April 29, with one game, slated for 1:00 p.m.
