FURMAN TAKES SERIES FROM CHARLESTON IN SEVENTH INNING RALLY

GREENVILLE, South Carolina -- Furman clinched the decisive third game of the series Saturday as Ali McNulity scored the wining run on a miscue by the Cougar's shortstop, giving the Lady Paladins a 3-2 win over College of Charleston. .

Entering the bottom of the seventh Furman was down by two and had managed only three baserunners the entire day. Senior Kelly Jack led the inning off with a single up the middle and advanced to second on a Chrissy Hacker groundout.. Two batters later, Jack was thrown out at home, but the bases were loaded with two outs for freshman La Kerah Barr. Barr singled to right center, moving pinch runner Karissa King to third. A throwing error on the C of C center fielder allowed King and catcher Melissa Hutton to score, tying the game 2-2 with two outs. Senior Kelly Van Houten stepped up and hit what appeared to be a routine ground ball to the Cougar shortstop, but a wild throw to first allowed Alison McNulty to score the winning run for the Lady Paladins.

"Once again our players came through in the seventh inning," said coach Bonnie Flynn. "The win was a tribute to the fact that we never give up."

Sophomore pitcher Missy Baldwin went the distance, giving up four hits and only one earned run in seven innings work, while Melissa Creeger took the loss, despite giving up no earned runs in 6-2/3 innings.

With the win, Furman improves to 21-21 overall and 8-4 in the Southern Conference, while the Cougars fall to 16-27 overall and 3-11 in league play.
