Furman Softball Defeats USCS, Falls to Presbyterian in Tournament

Greenville, SC - The Furman softabll team was defeated in their first game by Presbyterian College before winning over USCS in Sunday's tournament games at Furman University. Freshman LaKerah Barr led the Paladins offensively going 1-for-2 in game one and posting a double and two singles in the second game.

In the first game, Presbyterian took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second as junior Beth Pearson reached on a two RBI single and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Waters. The Lady Paladins attempted a comeback in the fourth scoring two runs on a RBI double by freshman Kristy Goodrich and a RBI single by sophomore Caroline Evans. Presbyterian increased their lead again scoring one in the fifth for a 4-2 final.

In game two, Furman took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third as runs scored on a ground out by freshman Kristin White and a triple by senior Katherine Brittain. The Lady Rifles tied the game in the top of the fifth scoring two runs on three singles. Furman responded in the bottom of the inning with three runs on four singles for a 5-2 win.

Goodrich took the loss for Furman against Presbyterian, while Pearson earned the win. Against USCS senior Chrissy Hacker earned the win for the Lady Paladins while Kristy Middaugh suffered the loss. Furman softball posted a 3-2 record in the fall tournament.
