FURMAN SOFTBALL DEFEATS GARDNER-WEBB IN FALL TOURNAMENT
Greenville, South Carolina -- The Furman softball team defeated Gardner-Webb
4-3 Friday afternoon in the Lady Paladinıs inaugural game at Furman Softball
Stadium.
Furman took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first as lead-off batter Melissa
Hutton scored on a Chrissy Hacker single. In the second, the Lady Paladins continued
thier attack scoring two runs on five hits. Gardner-Webb started to rally in
the top of the fourth scoring two runs on three singles and a Paladin error.
The Lady Runninı Bulldogs tied the game at 3-3 in the top of the fifth. Furman
rallied for the win scoring one run when sophomore Caroline Evans reached on
a single and scored on an RBI single by freshman pinch hitter LaKerah Barr.
Freshman Kristy Goodrich earned the win for Furman, while Gardner-Webbıs Stevi
Bolin suffered the loss. Furman continues tournament play on Saturday facing
Winthrop at 11:00 a.m. and Mercer at 4:00 p.m.
