FURMAN TAKES TWO FROM ELON

Greenville, South Carolina--The Furman softball team took two late-inning victories from the Elon Phoenix, on Wednesday at Pepsi Stadium. Furman (3-12) defeated Elon (6-18) 1-0 in game one of the doubleheader, before pulling out a 4-3 victory in game two.

In game one of the doubleheader, Furman freshman Karen Myers scored on a throwing error by Elon right-fielder Kristen Wallace in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift the Lady Paladins above Elon. Myers led Furman at the plate hitting 2-3 for the game. Furman pitcher Chrissy Hacker (3-5) pitched a complete seven innings, allowing three hits, while striking out five. Elon pitcher Shannon Courtney pitched a complete game, allowing five hits, and one earned run.

In game two, the Lady Paladins scored in the bottom of the eighth inning to break a 3-3 tie with Elon. Furman senior Kelly Jack scored the winning run on an Elon error, after doubling to lead off the inning. Senior Chrissy Hacker pitched three no-hit innings in relief for the Lady Paladins, striking out two. Jennifer Long took the loss for Elon in two innings of relief, changing her record to 0-2.

Furman will be in action again on Friday at 4:00 p.m. at the Georgia State Invitational against Eastern Michigan.
