FURMAN EARNS TWO VICTORIES WITH LATE INNING RALLIES

GREENVILLE, South Carolina -- Furman picked up a pair of softball victories over Brown University on Tuesday, with late inning rallies that propelled the Lady Paladins to a five game winning streak.

Junior pitcher Chrissy Hacker gave up two runs, one earned, in seven innings work, then stepped up in the bottom of the seventh and singled to right field to score Kay Brittain and Jessi Anucinski giving Furman the 3-2 victory. With the win, Hacker improved to 9-6 on the year.

Game two of the doubleheader remained scoreless through nine and one-half innings, but in the bottom of the 10th, Jessi Anucinski began the inning on second base (per the international tiebreaker rule). Anucinski advanced to third on a Kay Brittain bunt and scored on a throwing error by the Brown shortstop to give Furman a 1-0 victory. Freshman pitcher Missy Baldwin pitched all 10 shutout innings to improve to 4-6 on the season.

With the victories, the Lady Paladins improved to 18-20 on the year. Furman will face UNC Wilmington this weekend in the first Southern Conference action of the season.
