FURMAN SOFTBALL SWEEPS UTC IN SOUTHERN CONFERENCE ACTION

GREENVILLE, South Carolina -- The Furman softball team defeated UT Chattanooga twice on Saturday in a Southern Conference doubleheader, improving the squad's overall record to 23-23. With the wins, Furman handed The Lady Mocs their first two Southern Conference losses of the season.

Furman pitcher Kelly Jack gave up three hits and one earned run in a complete seven innings pitched to give the Lady Paladins the victory, improving her overall record to 7-8, while UTC pitcher Talya Trudell received the loss, moving her to 5-3 on the season. Junior Kay Brittain hit an RBI single scoring Furman's first run, while Kelly Van Houten, who hit 3 for 3 in the game, scored the second run on a UTC wild pitch.

In game two, the Lady Paladins led UTC going into the sixth inning, when a three run Lady Moc rally tied the score at three runs a piece. The tie was broken in the top of the eighth inning with a Kay Brittain two run homerun which UTC could not overcome in the bottom half. With the win, Furman improved its overall record to 23-23, while UTC moved to 25-21 on the season.

Furman will face Chattanooga again on Sunday April, 9 for a Southern Conference doulbeheader scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
