FURMAN SPLITS SOFTBALL SERIES WITH GEORGIA SOUTHERN

GREENVILLE, South Carolina -- Furman's Lady Paladin softball team dropped a 5-2 decision to Georgia Southern Monday at the Furman softball field, to split the four-game Southern Conference series 2-2.

The Eagles took an early three-game lead, scoring one in the second and two in the third to put Furman at the 3-0 disadvantage. The Lady Paladins answered with one in the top of the fourth and another in the fifth, but GSU scored single runs in the bottom of the fifth and sixth to take the 5-2 victory and improve to 26-28 on the year.

Stacie Cooper led the GSU effort with a three-for-four showing with two runs scored, while Kelley Fox added a two-for-three day at the plate and one of three Georgia Southern RBI. Furman was topped by Erin Keen, who was two-for-four at the plate, while Kelly Van Houten and Kay Brittain drove in the Lady Paladins two runs.

GSU's Jennifer Miller got the win after giving up one earned run in 4.1 innings pitched, while Furman's Missy Baldwin fell to 8-8 with the loss. Furman will play at UNC Charlotte on Wednesday at 3 p.m., before facing College of Charleston Friday and Saturday in SoCon action.
