LADY PALADINS DROP TWO TO USC SPARTANBURG IN SEASON OPENER

GREENVILLE - USC Spartanburg (2-0) pitchers Marci Panuco and Kristy Middaugh led the Rifles to a doubleheader sweep over Furman Softball (0-2) on Wednesday afternoon.

Panuco allowed only three hits in the game one shutout to propell USCS to a 4-0 victory. Furmanıs starting pitcher, Missy Baldwin, hit a double in the second earning the Lady Paladinsı only multiple base hit of the day. In game two, the Lady Rifles trailed 1-0 after Furman junior Katherine Brittain reached on a single and later scored on an error. RBI singles by Whiteside and Lang allowed USCS a 2-1 lead in the top of the seventh inning. Middaugh retired the first three Furman batters in the bottom of the inning to seal the win.

Marci Panuco and Kristy Middaugh earned wins for the Lady Rifles, while Furmanıs Missy Baldwin and Chrissy Hacker suffered the losses. Furman travels to Georgia Tech on Wednesday, February 23 for a 2:00 p.m. game.
