FURMAN SOFTBALL SPLITS WITH GEORGIA STATE

GREENVILLE, South Carolina -- TheFurman softball team split the doubleheader with Georgia State on Wednesday, by scores of 1-0, and 0-1.

In game one, Panthers pitcher Jaci Davis gave up just one hit in six innings work but got the loss when Furman's Kelly Jack reached on an error, advanced to second on a Chrissy Hacker walk, advanced to third on a fielder's choice, and scored on an Alison McNulty walk. The lone run was all Furman would need, as Hacker pitched seven shutout innings, giving up five hits and striking out eight. Furman improved to 34-27 overall , while Georgia State moved to 29-27.

Game two of the doubleheader remained scoreless through five innings until Georgia State's Adrienne Lyman doubled in the sixth to bring home the winning run. Georgia State pitcher Shannon McCormick threw a complete seven inning shutout, strking out seven and allowing only three hits. With the win, Georgia State improved to 30-27 overall, while Furman dropped to 34-28 on the season.

Furman will be in action again on Saturday and Sunday, April 29-30, in Southern Conference play at UNC Greensboro.
