Furman Softball drops two to UNC Greensboro
GREENVILLE, South Carolina -- The Furman softball team dropped both games of its conference opening doubleheader to UNC Greensboro, Saturday, by scores of 7-2 and 5-0. Ten Furman errors contributed to the Lady Paladin losses.
In game one the Paladins trailed 2-1 entering the fourth inning when UNCG scored three runs off two Furman miscues. Two more Furman errors led to UNCG runs in the sixth and seventh innings. Winning Pitcher Becky Gray threw seven innings, giving up only five hits and striking out three to get the win for Greensboro.
Game two of the doubleheader told a similar story as the Lady Paladins recorded six errors on five UNCG runs. Furman Pitcher Chrissy Hacker (1-12) gave up five hits and recorded seven strike outs with zero earned runs in the loss. By comparison UNCG¹s Maureen Flynn also gave up five hits and struck out three for the shutout.
With the win, UNCG improves its record to 23-13, while Furman drops to 9-25. The two teams will meet again Sunday on Varsity Field at 1:00 p.m.
