COLUMBIA, S.C. The No. 9 Lady Gamecocks moved to 8-2 at home this season with a sweep of the Lady Paladins of Furman 8-0 (5) and 3-0. Carolina moves to 28-7 this season, while Furman falls to 8-23.

Freshman Megan Matthews started game one, allowing no hits and striking out three. Fellow freshman Sam Russian finished up allowing three hits in two innings pitched. The Carolina offense started strong with the Lady Gamecocks scoring five in the first inning. Joyce McMillin ledoff the game withe a single to centerfield, the first of five hits to centerfield in the first inning. Senior Kim Pietro drove in McMillin with a single and after she stole second Adrienne Genovese doubled her in. Pitcher Matthews helped her cause with a triple that drove in Genovese.After the Lady Gamecocks had batted around, the inning ended with USC up 5-0. The five run cushion would be all Matthews would need, but Carolina extended the lead to 8-0 after the second inning.

In game two, Joyce McMillin allowed two hits over 6.1 innings on her way to her second-straight shutout. McMillin threw a no-hitter her last time out March 14 against Iona. Carolina capatilized on Lady Paladin errors and wild pitches to capture game two 3-0. Carolina got on the board in the second inning when junior Kim Schultze singled to centerfield and was sacrificed over by Matthews. Schultze, the game-winning run, who eventually score on one of three wild pitched from pitcher Chrissy Hacker. Carolina returns to Southeastern Conference action this weekend against Mississippi State March 26 at 4 p.m.
