FURMAN DROPS TWO TO GEORGIA STATE


ATLANTA, Georgia -- Furmanšs Lady Paladin softball team fell to 3-9 Tuesday with a pair of losses to the Panthers of Georgia State.

The Panthers and Paladins were tied at four entering the fifth inning, when Furman went ahead by one. GSU answered with two runs off Lady Paladin pitcher Kelly Jack in the bottom of the fifth, then added one more in the sixth for insurance. GSU pitcher Melanie Kotler improved to 3-1 with the 7-5 final, while Furmanšs Jack fell to 2-2.

In game two, Furman and Georgia State were gridlocked 3-3 in the bottom of the seventh, when Panther sophomore Amanda Corley connected on a two-out single to right field. Corley advanced on a Bodziony single and scored when Maria Smith tripled to give GSU the 5-3 victory. Angie Buckem got the victory and improved to 3-2, while Furmanšs Ashley Rayl fell to 1-4.

With the conclusion of six consecutive road games, the Lady Paladins return to Furman Field this weekend for the Paladin Invitational. The Invitational is a round robin format featuring East Carolina and Middle Tennessee State. Action begins Saturday at 11 a.m. and Sunday at 10 a.m.
