FLYNN HOPES TO MAKE 2000 OLYMPIC GAMES

AS PITCHING COACH FOR DUTCH NATIONAL TEAM

GREENVILLE, South Carolina -- When the 2000 Olympics roll around, head Furman softball coach Bonnie Flynn hopes to be there, but not as an athlete for the United States. Instead, Flynnıs best chance to make the 2000 games is as pitching coach for the Dutch National Team, a position she has held since May 15, 1999.

From July 2-9, 1999, the Dutch National Team will compete in the European Region Olympic Qualification Tournament in Parma, Italy. Only one team will advance from this regional to the 2000 Olympic Games. A victory here, and Flynn is on her way to Australia next summer.

In addition to the Regional Qualifier, Flynn coached the Dutch Team during a May 19-28 challenge series versus the Australia Olympic Team, and is currently coaching the team during the Haarlem Softball Week Tournament in Haarlem, Netherlands. Opponents in this tournament include Australia, China, Japan, and South Africa.

A graduate of Yale University where she was a pitcher and outfielder for the softball team, Flynn recently completed her third season as head coach of the Furman softball program.
