FURMAN SPLITS DOUBLE HEADER WITH BROWN


GREENVILLE, South Carolina -- Furmanıs Lady Paladin softball team dropped a 5-4 decision to Brown University Thursday, before rebounding in game two for a 5-2 victory.

The Lady Paladins scored one run on two hits in the bottom of the fourth inning of game one and stretched the advantage to 2-0 in the bottom of the fifth. Brown broke the game open in the top of the sixth, however, scoring four runs on four hits off Lady Paladin pitcher Chrissy Hacker. The Bears added an insurance run in the top of the seventh and Furman rallied in the bottom of the seventh, scoring two before Hacker struck out for the final out of the game. Hacker took the loss for Furman, while Ellie Blake improved to 1-3 on the year for Brown.

Furman also took the early advantage in game two, scoring three runs in the bottom of the third inning before giving up two in the top of the fourth. Furman scored one in the fourth and one in the fifth to reach the final 5-2 margin. Designated player Jodi Baumgardner led the Lady Paladins with a two-for-three showing at the plate, while center fielder Kay Brittain drove in two runs on a double in the third and scored two of the teamıs five runs. Furman pitcher Chrissy Hacker got the win to improve to 2-14 on the year, while Brownıs Aleana Sutton got the loss.

Furman moved to 11-27 on the year, and will face Charleston Southern Friday at Varsity Field, at 2:00 p.m.
