MORRISON'S HAT TRICK LEADS LADY PALADIN SOCCER BY WESTERN CAROLINA 6-1

GREENVILLE - Sophomore Andre'a Morrison scored three goals and senior Emily Turgeon added a goal and an assist to lead Furman to a 6-1 victory over Western Carolina in women's soccer action Wednesday night at Eugene Stone Soccer Stadium.

Turgeon's goal, her eighth of the year and 52nd in her career, moved her passed Melissa Turner and into first in career points at Furman with 137. Turgeon passed Turner to become Furman's all-time goal scorer on Sunday in a 4-2 win over Chattanooga.

Furman got on the board at the 9:03 mark when Turgeon beat several defenders before drilling a shot by Catamount keeper Tina Weaver from 18 yards out. Morrison made the score 2-0 just 56 seconds later taking a Kat Kelley pass and redirecting it off of a Western Carolina defender.

Forward Kelly Shedd picked up her first goal of the season for the Lady Paladins in the 14th minute on assists from Turgeon and Alice Martin. Morrison and Kelley hooked up again at the 19:23 mark for Morrison's second tally of the night to make the score 4-0. Danielle Petro scored her fourth goal of the season less than six minutes later to give Furman a 5-0 lead at intermission.

In the second half, Morrison made the score 6-0 when her shot from 18 yards out deflected off of a Catamount defender and found the back of the net at 50:56. Less than one minute later, Western Carolina picked up its only goal of the night. Jordan Howell took a Lauren Bramlett pass and beat keeper Andie Hinshaw to make the final margin 6-1.

"I was glad to see us come out and score some goals in the first half tonight ," said Furman head coach Brian Lee. "This is definitely one of our best efforts of the year and it was great to get so many players into the match."

Furman improves to 9-4-2 on the season and 6-0-1 in Southern Conference play, while Western Carolina falls to 4-8-2 and 1-5 in league play. Furman extends its Southern Conference unbeaten streak to 20 matches.

The Lady Paladins return to action next Tuesday night when they visit Elon.
