FURMAN WOMEN'S SOCCER DEFEATS CHATTANOOGA 4-2

GREENVILLE - Emily Turgeon recorded a goal and an assist to become Furman's all-time leading goal scorer as the Furman women's soccer defeated Chattanooga 4-2 Sunday afternoon at Eugene Stone Soccer Stadium.

Turgeon now has 51 goals on the season as she topped the previous record of 50 by 2002 graduate Melissa Turner. Turgeon also tied Turner's record for career points as they both now have 134 career points.

Furman's first goal of the night came on an April Raymer penalty kick at the 11:31 mark. The Lady Paladins were awarded a penalty kick after Chattanooga goallkeeper Stacey Mattheiseen fouled Furmanšs Andreša Morrison in the box.

Furman extended the lead to 2-0 when Julie Einstein headed in a cross by Emily Turgeon at the 19:30 mark. The Lady Paladins held the 2-0 lead through intermission.

UTC pulled to within 2-1 at the 47:30 when Tirza Rudgley scored on a Amelie Fogelberg assist.

Furman then scored twice in a 33 second time span to go ahead 4-1. Turgeon scored her record setting goal off a double assist from Andreša Morrison and Kelly Shedd at the 75:47 mark. Then Stacy Simpson knocked home a Morrison cross at the 76:20 mark.

Chattanooga scored a late goal when Brooke Crandall knocked in a Kelly Hannifin assist the 87:54 mark to pull UTC to within 4-2.

"Chattanooga continues to improve every year," said Furman head coach Brian Lee. "Their program is certainly heading in the right direction. I was glad to see us find the back of the net a few times after our struggles earlier this week."

Furman improves to 8-4-2 on the season, 5-0-1 in Southern Conference play. Furman extends its Southern Conference unbeaten streak to 19 matches. Chattanooga falls to 5-5-2 on the season and 2-2-2 in the Southern Conference.

The Lady Paladins return to action Wednesday night when they host Western Carolina at 7:00. Chattanooga faces ETSU Thursday in Chattanooga at 6:00.
